Thanksgiving

I’m thankful because…
My cancer treatments are doing what they’re supposed to.
I’m officially in remission (although still in treatment.)
I’m generally feeling OK. Well, a little tired — but OK.

I’m thankful for:
A nice house — which is getting old (like me) and in need of repair, but still standing.
Lots of gorgeous (overgrown) plants in my back yard.
My cat.

I’m thankful because:
I met my husband on Thanksgiving Day in 1972. We’ve had our ups and downs, but he’s been there for me 100% through this illness, and during my first bout in 1998.

I’m thankful for friends, family and acquaintances who have offered support, love and prayers through what has been a very difficult year.

On a lighter note, I’m thankful for pre-made pumpkin pie. Back in the early days of our marriage, we made pie from scratch — cook the pumpkin, cut and peel, clean the seeds and roast them, drain the extra liquid from the pumpkin, make the crust, make the filling — something like 4 hours from start to finish. Did we have fun? Sure. Do I ever want to do that again? No.

Did I mention that I’m thankful for pre-made pumpkin pie?

If possible, spend the day with friends and family. If not possible, consider volunteering somewhere to brighten the day of someone less fortunate.

Happy Thanksgiving!
